On August 19, the Chongqing Wanzhou Power Plant phase II expansion project received official approval from the Chongqing Municipal Development and Reform Commission. The approved construction scale is 2×1,000 MW, marking the beginning of the substantial construction phase.
The project integrates multi-dimensional energy-conserving and carbon-reduction technologies, combining the latest efficient and clean coal power generation methods. Once operational, the coal consumption of the project is expected to be reduced to 270 grams per kilowatt-hour and generate an annual power output of 9 billion kilowatt-hours, which will substantially enhance Chongqing’s peak-shaving capacity and power supply reliability, and optimize regional energy mix. In addition, the project will support the low-carbon transition of the Sichuan-Chongqing region and elevate the Company’s influence and competitiveness in the region.
For next steps, the Company will give priority to efficiency and cost control by strictly implementing the “Two Non-Exceedances and Three Zeros” project construction requirements, strengthening construction organization and management, and strictly controlling project construction costs to ensure actual expenditure remains within the approved budget. The Company aims to improve the project’s profitability and risk-resistance capabilities, establishing itself as a “high-quality, fast-speed, smart, and national-level excellence” benchmark project and a model project featuring “coal-fired power and new energy joint operation”, and injecting new momentum into the clean and efficient development of coal-fired power.
